Automatically matching lifts minimizes drivers interaction

AMCS GPS Matching reduces route time and speeds up the billing process

AMCS GPS Matching reduces route time and speeds up the billing process

Assisting the driver while on his route to empty bins and at the same time minimizing the need for driver interaction, is one of the main benefits of GPS Matching which is a standard functionality of AMCS Mobile Workforce. Each customer is surrounded by a geofence which is dynamically calculated using AMCS GPS algorithms. The geofences are displayed to the driver by showing a green circle around the customer in the maps on AMCS Mobile.

With AMCS GPS Matching every lift is automatically matched to the correct customer. With this, GPS Matching automates both the collection process and the matching of lifts to the correct customers. As a result, waste collectors profit from a series of advantages. For instance, since the matching process is automated driver interaction is minimized which prevents mistakes. Furthermore, reducing driver interaction it brings down route time and additionally speeds up the billing process which increases cash flow.

GPS Matching is a state-of-the-art technology that combines GPS tracking and geofencing into one and the same system. Smart and superfast matching algorithms on AMCS Mobile indicate all the GPS coordinates for each customer on the route and based on that draw a geofence around each customer.

Any action carried out by the driver in that geofence is matched against that particular customer. For instance, after a bin is emptied the lift is matched via GPS matching to the correct customer on the route without the need for driver interaction. Once all planned lifts are recorded against the customer AMCS Mobile can automatically complete the job and send the data to the back office in near real-time.

"The size of this geofence will depend on the proximity of the surrounding customers", Product Manager Ken Tierney explains. “Using AMCS algorithms AMCS Mobile calculates the geofence for each customer on the route taking the surrounding customers into account. If a customer is less than 5 meters from the next customer the system indicates to the driver that the correct customer needs to be selected to match the lift. In this instance, the driver easily and quickly with a click can manually match the lift to the correct customer."

Matching the lift to the right customer

No reason to check lifts anymore. For waste collectors, this is one of the problems AMCS GPS Matching solves for them. And it doesn't stop with these benefits, which becomes clear from Tierney's explanation. “Since GPS matching is automatically matching a lift to the correct customer when within its geofence reducing the need for a manual match. This reduces work at the back office as well as for the driver as a result there is less time needed to confirm and complete the routes. Additionally, it ensures good quality of data, leading to fewer mistakes and unnecessary time spent to correct them.”

AMCS GPS Matching is used globally and effectively by a great number of waste collectors amongst others, large tier one companies in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. They profit from multiple advantages, for instance, the process for generating matching geo fences for each route is completely automated.

"While executing orders the system dynamically adapts to the changes”, Tierney mentions as another benefit. “For instance, if the planner adds a customer or a call out to the route, the system automatically recalculates the geofencing. In the event that two customers are too close to each other, the system automatically recalculates the geofence for each affected customer and automatically updates the geofences.”

Minimum drivers interaction to increase safety

Furthermore, there is no need to deploy an RFID solution which as a result reduces hardware costs and container management. "GPS matching is mainly ideal for low-density commercial waste collection, especially ones with a front-load service”, he says. “Since with GPS matching a minimum driver interaction is required, the only action to be taken is when customers are too close to each other to enable GPS matching.”

As a result, the driver can concentrate on driving the truck and emptying bins without slowing down the work, he states. "Even so by reducing drivers interaction, it is insuring safety during the waste collection. Also of importance is the visual indication of geofences on the mobile in-cab device solution assists the driver. This helps to make her or his work not only so much easier but also more pleasurable.”
